Our Beloved Royal
Royal K. Irving, Born: 03/26/59, Died: 04/09/10
Royal Kenneth Irving left this life unexpectedly. We rejoice in the life he lived, and are deeply saddened by his passing. Roy was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, March 26, 1959 and died April 9, 2010. Son of Kenneth Clifford Irving and Hermine Cziep Irving.
Roy loved sports. He played anything that dealt with a ball and was good at everything he tried. He shared his love for sports with his children and supported them at countless baseball, basketball, volleyball and football games.
Roy was a very hard worker. He would spend his summers and Saturdays helping his dad 10-15 hours every day doing construction work. He learned everything dealing with construction - from pouring foundations to putting on a roof.
Roy enjoyed the out-of-doors. He went on many hikes and through diligence and hard work, earned his Eagle Scout Award. He loved nature and exploring his world. Roy was curious and was always willing to try anything at least once. He was an avid reader and there was not a day that went by he did not have a book in his hands.
Roy served an LDS mission in Boston, Massachusetts. He then came home and graduated from the University of Utah in communications and marketing. Roy used the skills he learned from his father, and the education he gained in school and started up his own lawn mowing business. He never looked back and from then on, he built homes, did remodeling, and had his own roofing business.
Roy cared for the underdog and needy. No one really knew the kindness and compassion he had for someone who needed a hand. He helped the homeless, the jobless, and those who just needed a little encouragement or a kick in the pants. He would quietly go about doing silent deeds for others who never knew.
He married his sweetheart, Pam Madsen, September 18, 1990. He has four wonderful children: Sarah, 19; Justin, 16; Jessica, 14, and Johnny 13. Roy loved his wife dearly and cherished each one of his children. His love for exploring took his family on many cabin trips, Disneyland, a cruise, boating, skiing, and fun things to do as a family. He loved to play board games and watch adventurous movies with family and friends.
Roy was a great husband, a caring and concerned father, a loving brother and son. Roy leaves behind his parents Mimi Irving and Kenneth Irving and five siblings and their families: Harold (wife Michele), Susan Bahlmann (husband John), Emily Steck (husband David), Tina Rateau (husband Philippe) and Bryan (wife Janeal). We express to all who have provided love and support for the family during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the Roy Irving Donation account has been set up for the family at any Zion’s Bank.
For those who wish to pay their respect to the family, a viewing will be held Tuesday, April 13, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and again the next day, Wednesday, April 14, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. The funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Both the viewing and service will be held at the Daybreak 7th Ward, 3760 West Rushton View Drive (off 4000 West and north of the Oquirrh Temple).
